New Painting: Holding Water / by Alyson Khan

holding-water-final Just wanted to share this new painting. It was a beast in progress for about the past 6 months. I think it's done. It eventually evolved to resemble part of the moon suspended in an arcing cosmos of stark black and white. The stack of "boxes" along the left side of the canvas signifies the compulsion to order things, to try and make sense of the abounding paradoxes in life. The title "Holding Water" is about our intuition and the sensation of knowing without necessarily being able to explain. It's a peaceful groundless space buoyed by self-trust. On the right side of the canvas is a feminine outline peeking through and resembling a cut out from an angled dress pattern.

Thanks for looking, thanks for reading!
